A Biographer Who Shattered Malcolm X Myths | CNN
by Maytha Alhassen

"Although he didn't use a computer to write, he did not dismiss advances that made the ivory tower more accessible to the public. Marable's combination of old-school scholarship, devotion to the community and his students, ability to quote Tupac lyrics, use of multimedia for educational purposes and incomparable instruction set him apart not only as an eminent scholar of African-American history, but also as an engaged scholar."

Coach Luke Campbell

Luke Campbell Lands Assistant Coach Job
for Miami Central High

"I don't tolerate cursing or the N-word," Luke continued. "I tell them, 'Don't ever disrespect a girl because that makes you less than a man.' And 'Pick the girl who is responsible, not the one with Fs on her report card. Easy to get in, hard to get out. I've lived that life.'"

The former rap star was cleared by the Miami-Dade Public School system to coach the team, after Campbell received letters of support from community leaders, parents, neighborhood kids and Central High's principals.

Luke is much more than a coach, according to C.J. Gaines, an 18-year-old wide receiver for the Rockets.

"I don't see him as a rapper," Gaines said. "I see him as a father."

In Memory of Roc Raida

Photograph from Bobbito | BounceMag.com

"It’s been almost over a year already and we still miss him…..

The Beat Junkies, with the support of VTech, threw a tribute to our dear friend, the late great Grandmaster Roc Raida of the X-Ecutioners this past September. The actual event was exactly a year after the date he was buried: Sept 24th, 2009. We were able to have some members of the X-Ecutioners participate in the event, as well as having Roc Raida’s family in the house. His daughter DJ NyRaida performed a set in tribute to her father.

If you were in LA for this event, you were able to witness something very magical. And for those who didn’t get to experience it, and those who want to relive it, we present this video. Mochilla sat with the Junkies and X-Ecutioners and tried to remember Raida not in a sad way but in a celebratory way.

As MF Grimm says “Anyone who knows Raida knows that the energy that he possessed he was able to transfer to you – and once he did nobody could tell you anything…”

Watch enjoy and please turn it up….."
